India's Steel City — Tatanagar on NH-33
Jamshedpur — Tatanagar to rail travellers — is India's first planned industrial city, built from 1907 around Tata Steel. Wide tree-lined sectors, Jubilee Park, and the Subarnarekha valley give it a greener feel than most Indian metros. XLRI, Tata Steel offices, TMH Sakchi, and Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi make the NH-33 corridor one of Jharkhand's busiest taxi routes.

Jubilee Park
225-acre Mughal-inspired park from Tata Steel's 50th anniversary — Smriti Udyan, Jayanti Sarovar, and the musical fountain. Founder's Day light-ups in October.

Tata Steel Zoological Park
Inside Jubilee Park — tigers, leopards, sloth bears, and a safari add-on. Closed Mondays; plan a morning before a Ranchi return drive.

Dimna Lake
Reservoir at the foot of Dalma hills, ~13 km from Sakchi — boating, sunsets, and picnic banks popular on winter weekends.

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary
Elephant sanctuary above Dimna — jeep safaris and a Pinda watchtower. Best October–April; combine with an early Ranchi pickup day.

Bhuvaneshwari Temple
Large temple near Telco — calm inner sanctum; Durga Puja and Janmashtami draw big local crowds.

Sir Dorabji Tata Park
Quieter than Jubilee — landscaped paths and the Jamshedji Tata statue; good for a short morning walk.
History
How Jamshedpur got here
Jamsetji Tata chose Sakchi on the Subarnarekha for iron ore and water; the township was renamed Jamshedpur in 1919. Tata Iron and Steel Company (now Tata Steel) shaped every sector — from Bistupur shops to Telco and Adityapur industry. Tatanagar Junction became a mainline hub on the Howrah–Mumbai route. Today the city remains a template for planned urban India: parks, hospitals, and schools woven into the steel economy.
