Visit Dhanbad
Coal capital of India — gateway to Maithon & the Damodar valley
Dhanbad sits in the heart of the Damodar coalfields — India's busiest coal-mining district and a major rail junction on the Howrah–Delhi main line. Bank More, Hirapur, and Saraidhela anchor daily life; IIT (ISM) Dhanbad draws students from across the country. Beyond the mines, Maithon and Panchet dams, Topchanchi Lake, and the NH-2 belt toward Bokaro and Kolkata make Dhanbad a practical base for business travel and weekend getaways in Jharkhand.

History
How Dhanbad got here
The Damodar valley's coal seams drew British-era mining from the nineteenth century; Dhanbad grew as collieries and railways expanded. After Independence the area became the backbone of Bharat Coking Coal and related industries. Dhanbad Junction consolidated as a divisional hub, and IIT Indian School of Mines (now IIT Dhanbad) anchored education and research. Today the city balances heavy industry with dam tourism and steady traffic on NH-2 toward Asansol, Bokaro, and Ranchi.
