Abode of the gods — Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga
Deoghar — literally "abode of the gods" — is one of India's foremost pilgrimage cities. Baba Baidyanath Dham enshrines one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and shares its complex with a Shakti Peetha. Jasidih Junction and Deoghar Airport (DGH) connect devotees from Ranchi, Bokaro, Patna, and Kolkata; Shravani Mela each monsoon draws millions along the Sultanganj–Deoghar kanwar route.

Baba Baidyanath Dham
Main Jyotirlinga temple at the heart of Deoghar — morning and evening aarti, parikrama past 22 subsidiary shrines; plan extra time during Shravan.

Naulakha Mandir
Marble Radha–Krishna temple about 1.5 km from Baidyanath Dham — serene architecture and quieter darshan queues than the main shrine.

Basukinath Dham
Shiva temple ~43 km from Deoghar — many pilgrims complete darshan at both Baidyanath and Basukinath in one yatra.

Trikut Parvat
Hill with ropeway access and forest views above Deoghar — popular half-day trip after morning darshan.

Tapovan Caves & Hills
Rock-cut caves and hill walks associated with sage Valmiki — short drive from town, best in winter mornings.

Jasidih Junction
Mainline railhead 7 km from the temple — CityTaxis transfers to Tower Chowk and guest houses; Baidyanath Dham station branch in peak season.
History
How Deoghar got here
Deoghar's sanctity is recorded in Puranic tradition linking the site to Ravana's worship of Shiva. Medieval and colonial-era patronage expanded the Baidyanath complex; the town grew as a tirtha in Santhal Pargana. Jasidih's rail link on the Howrah–Delhi line made Deoghar reachable from across eastern India. Deoghar Airport (2022) added air access, while Shravani Mela — the kanwar yatra from Sultanganj — remains the defining annual gathering.

- Santhal and tribal haats in the surrounding Pargana belt.
