1. Pelling Kanchenjunga View

The clearest Kanchenjunga sunrise in Sikkim. Most hotels in Pelling have a deck or roof that faces north — request a Kanchenjunga-facing room. Aim for 5:30 AM in summer, 6:00 AM in winter.

2. Pemayangtse Monastery

Built in 1705, this is Sikkim's second-oldest monastery and the seat of the Nyingma Buddhist order. The three-storey main hall holds a wooden sculpture of Sangthok Palri — Guru Padmasambhava's heavenly palace — on the top floor. Open 7 AM – 5 PM.

3. Khecheopalri Lake (the wishing lake)

A sacred lake at 1,700 m, considered to grant wishes. Local belief: birds remove every fallen leaf from the surface — and you'll see the lake nearly leaf-free year-round. A short walk through prayer flags leads to the lake.

4. Yuksom — the original capital

Yuksom ("the meeting place of the three lamas") was Sikkim's first capital in 1642. The Coronation Throne (Norbugang Chorten) is a 5-minute walk from the main road — the stones still mark where the first Chogyal (king) was consecrated.

5. Goecha La trek (advanced)

A 76 km, 9-day trek from Yuksom to Goecha La (4,940 m) — the closest you can get to Kanchenjunga base without climbing. The best months are April–May and October–November. Permits and a registered guide are mandatory.

6. Pelling Sky Walk + Char Dham (Solophok)

A glass-floored skywalk at 2,400 m, leading to the 137-foot Chenrezig statue at the Char Dham complex. Touristy but worth a stop.

7. Rabdentse Ruins
